Arrive Mombasa and be whisked away to the Swahili coast by private transfer. You arrive at a tranquil property at the end of a winding road edged with palm trees, baobabs and rocky cliffs and an endless white sand beach. Welcomed with a hibiscus cocktail by friendly staff, you wander down to the private beach lapped by the turquoise Indian Ocean. Home to a family related to the famed Baron Blixen, the property is an elevated mix of Swedish and Swahili style. The horizon offers endless possibilities for your stay, such as morning yoga, wellness, horseback riding, paddle boarding, snorkeling, sailing, kite surfing, kayaking, and sunbathing on private islands. Enjoy the warm pinks and oranges of sunset before retiring to your room for a shower and a respite before dinner. Local musicians soothe the warm evening air with melodic tunes, as you sip on signature cocktails and settle down at your dinner table under the stars. Locally grown organic fresh fruits and vegetables and seafood fresh from the ocean adorn your plate. Head back to your bed dressed in crisp linen sheets for a good night sleep. Awaken to several days of adventure, sun, sand and the warm embrace of all that East Africa has to offer.

After the sea has soothed your soul, head by charter flight to a secluded section of Laikipia - a thriving piece of game-rich Kenyan highlands and a conservation archetype. The family who built the lodge, camped on this spectacular property to experience where the sun threw light shafts, where the breezes cooled the trees and how the iconic shape of Mount Kenya anchored the view. Vaulted walkways lure you into cool shade and lead you along earth paths toward a gym, spa and hammam, dappled suntraps and Lamu daybeds. Alongside a gnarled African olive tree, a slice of pool hangs over the untamed wild of the Kieku valley. Explore 97,000 acres of wild savannas, rugged tracks and rocky outcrops via helicopter flips, quad bike safaris, horse riding and big five game drives.

Prepare yourself for the iconic and staggering big-five experience as you are chartered to the Masai Mara. Imagined by a famed East African guide and photographer, you are welcomed to the best situated camp in the Mara. Riverside and backed up against an escapement, the dimension and detail of the property feed a love for raw materials and classic safari aesthetics. The expert rangers read the bush like a book; as you venture into the diverse landscape to seek out lions, buffalo and cheetah you learn more about the environment and unique eco-system. Your hosts, Roisin and Adrian will tell you, that there is no set schedule here, each day is catered to your needs, whether safari picnics under acacia trees, watching water holes with eles, ballooning over the migration or following lion researchers - it is what we dream of Africa.

  • Across Kenya there are two wet and two dry seasons - the long, cool-dry season is July to October hike the short, hot-dry season is in January and February. In the wetter months, the bleached grasses green up and ant arrival of newborns lures those looking for quiet, exclusive trips.
  • The off-season is the magical time - when you feel like you can have vast tracts of wilderness to yourself and truly assimilate into this expereince.
  • We recommend October 1- December 1 for flat windless ocean expanses as well as less traffic in the Mara. Afternoon temperatures are between 18c/ 65f- 30c/ 85f degrees and vary greatly according to altitude and location. Most days have a fine, clear sky and sunny weather.
  • The Great Migration peaks in these areas from August 1-November 1 and elsewhere in the vast Serengeti over the remainder of the year.
  • Bird lover should book from April- October when rare bird migrations arrive.
