Sustainability
Travel isn't yet sustainable and we don't pretend that it is. Since we are in the business, we have a responsibility to offset and understand the scope of our impact. First and foremost, we only produce low-volume, high-quality experiences. In a system where brands send thousands of people all over the world annually without batting an eye, we hope to disrupt this system permanently - we only offer the conscious and well considered. In addition, we are re-distributing our profits to areas of need. We choose partners that take care of our earth and our people. We support leading non-profit organizations that enable us to undo some of the damage that comes with producing envisioned edits, experiences and guides worldwide. We acknowledge that we aren’t perfect but it’s through incremental efforts that we are committed to sustainable solutions, finding the best partners and improving the world around us.
1% FOR THE PLANET
In 2022, we joined 1% for the Planet. Each year, we contribute 1% of our annual revenue to a group of charities that are dedicated to protecting our mother earth, its ecosystems and wildlife. To learn more about 1% for the Planet, how it works or how to become a member yourself, please visit their website.
CLIMATE POSITIVE WORKFORCE
As proud members of Ecologi, we are able to reduce the carbon footprint of our team members, as well as offsetting any business travel (which we struggle to keep to a minimum). Ecologi calculates the amount of CO2 emissions we produce as individuals within the company, and allows us to offset those emissions with monetary donations to projects that work to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels.
EVERY CLIENT = 1 TREE PLANTED
For each client, a tree is planted in the north-west region of Madagascar through the Eden Reforestation Projects. Eden are experts in responsible reforestation, having planted 265 million trees to this day and created 2.6 million work days for local communities. Madagascar is a nation with over 200,000 species of plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else in the world. Sadly more than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species from their homes.
ALPINE INITIATIVES
We are proud to be part of the Alpine Initiatives (AI) family. AI inspires, connects, and fosters ideas into fruition. AI lives and breathes mountain culture every day and works tirelessly to help others do the same. We guide trips, build huts, fund programs, and empower people affecting positive change in alpine communities, all while helping underserved groups get out and experience the raw beauty of the mountains for themselves. In the words of our beloved friend, JP Auclair, “It’s not about doing less…it’s about doing more.”
ET PLUS
There are ongoing fights and novel campaigns that warrant our support. ROOV is a proud financial supporter of Planned Parenthood, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles, the Equal Justice Initiative, the Fair Fight and UNHCR (Ukraine).
We have future goals and metrics as well. We hope to one-day attain and maintain B Corp certification, the distinction for companies committed to environmental and social responsibility as a core part of their business.
