WANDER WEST

THE ITINERARY

Arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico, hop just 10 miles up the the road north along the Rio Grande River, and find your first respite in the arms of an historic farm with two namesake silos — the ultimate sustainable getaway in the most unlikely of places. You are welcomed through a long alle of trees into the most enchanting courtyard, overflowing with climbing red bougainvilleas and hanging ristras of pueblo chilis. Spend your first few days exploring endless rows of lavender, over 25 acres of gardens and an extensive network of nearby trails; relax by the saltwater pool and enjoy creative southwestern fare cooked exclusively from the house gardens.

Watch the sunset behind the Sandia Mountains, with a vintage tequila in hand and wake up refreshed to head west across empty two lane highways through the desert to Gallup, enjoying an evening at the historic El Rancho Inn. After sweet dreams and a full belly of chili rellenos and blue corn enchiladas, awake early morning and head north through the sagebrush and sand to Shiprock; after your fill of red desert rocks, wind northward to the foot of the rockies and nestle in to your secluded mountain cabin retreat in Colorado. Spend days soaking in the natural springs, hiking through aspens, horseback riding or mountain biking through wildflowers and snow capped peaks.

Rejuvenated and relaxed, hit the trail traversing over a series of mountain passes with several pit stops in quaint mining towns with a final destination of Durango; grab a few bikes supplied by your hip downtown hotel and hit the town for micro brewed beers, the rodeo and a bit of local bluegrass. The next day venture out once again on backroads through tall grass and ponderosa pines to the soothing springs, scents and lavish beds of a favorite northern New Mexican oasis.

After a morning massage and herbal wrap, head east to the artist retreat of Taos; walk through adobes, browse galleries, and retreat for the night under the desert sky and big cottonwood trees. Enjoy brunch at the local’s Love Apple and head south over the high road to the magical El Santuario de Chimayo;  after bags of chili and charms are purchased, head again further south to Santa Fe to enjoy an evening at Vanessi’s piano bar and indulge in breakfast at Guadalupe Cafe and giant Georgia O’Keefe paintings or the newest exhibition at SITE, the following day. The circle ends as your depart from Albuquerque International.

Seasonality

An experience such as this should be taken whenever you can... all seasons are enjoyable, we recommend June- September.

The American Southwest has a very dry, high desert climate with intense sunlight. The summer sees average high temperatures in the 30c/ 80f with infrequent albeit incredible afternoon thunderstorms and comfortably cooler nights.

For warm summer nights or by motorcycle- June 15- September 15.

For the best light and golden hues in the high alpine forests- September 1- October 1.

For special events such as workshops, markets and festivals TBD.

Our offerings are imbued by fascination for the unknown, nostalgia for the bygone, reverie for the creative and true attention to today’s needs — especially for comfort and replenishment.
